Shopify payout pending: what the statuses mean and when to worry
Pending, Scheduled and Deposited mean different things. How Shopify settlement timing works, and what to check before contacting Support.

A late payout is not always a held payout
Before assuming something is wrong, check where your money actually is. Shopify payouts follow a minimum settlement period for each country, skip weekends and public holidays, and your bank can add its own processing time on top. Many "missing" payouts are simply still inside that window.
What the statuses mean
Shopify does not use statuses called "On hold" or "In transit", so if someone tells you your payout has one of those statuses, ask them where they saw it.
- Pending (a transaction status): the money has not yet been added to a payout.
- Scheduled: the payout is being sent to your bank account.
- Deposited: Shopify has sent it to your bank. Shopify says it typically takes 1 to 3 business days to appear.
- Failed: the bank did not accept the payout. See our guide on bank verification.
- Withdrawn: used when Shopify debits your bank account to cover a negative balance.
How long settlement takes
Shopify publishes a minimum settlement period by country, for example 3 business days in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Shopify also says payouts for new merchants can take up to 5 business days, and that higher-risk accounts can be put on a custom schedule with longer payout periods (it gives a range of 5 to 20 business days).
These are Shopify's typical figures, not guarantees. Count business days only.
What to check
- Your payout schedule (daily, weekly or monthly) under Settings > Payments.
- Whether a recent bank account change paused payouts. Shopify says a change pauses payouts for a period it gives as 3 to 5 business days.
- Whether chargebacks, refunds or fees reduced the payout amount.
- For a Deposited payout that has not arrived after a few business days, the payout Trace ID, which your bank can use to locate it.
When to contact Shopify Support
If the expected date has passed after allowing for settlement, weekends and bank time, or if your admin shows a hold, reserve or verification request, contact Shopify Support through the Help Center while logged in to your store. Ask whether there is a hold, reserve or custom schedule on your account.
